I was in a lot of pain in life and needed more than a house, a car and a job to fill the hole. I was taken on an adventure of suffering in search of an answer. I’ve written a short book of poetry about the journey I went on through my spiritual awakening. I have shared it here, in the hope that it will inspire and support people who are facing challenges in life and in practice.
I hope that this book fuels the conversation about the crossover between psychotherapy and meditation and how we need to embrace both to wake up. If we can allow room for our shadows, we will be able to live with greater capacity for compassion and joyful presence.
This book is dedicated to Daniel Ingram for writing the book that blew my mind and for helping me pick up the pieces afterwards.
“I walk through the fire
And let it burn away the resistance
I soften into the river of my soul
And let it rip away the self
My heart breaks
And is flooded by the ocean of suffering…
“The cycle repeats
Surely, this must be the bottom
I cry out in agony
Only to surface once more
Somehow simultaneously lighter, freer
And holding unfathomable depths of compassion”
